A quick Cabo getaway

As the old adage goes, "when life gives you lemons..."
In September of last year, I was totally stoked. I had just booked a 4 night stay at Sandals Southcoast in Jamaica. This had me over the moon excited, as this resort is the ONLY Sandals or Beaches resort in Jamaica that I had not yet visited. As a Platinum Elite Certified Sandals Specialist, that is a big deal. But a few weeks later, the very unexpected happened in the form of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa. She slammed into Jamaica, exactly on top of Sandals Southcoast, nearly obliterating the resort. For obvious reasons, my vacation was cancelled.
However, I still wanted to travel. 2025 was a difficult year for me - we had sold most of our possessions, and moved from Cleveland, OH to Eugene, OR, with an 18 month old and a dog in tow. Oh, and I was newly pregnant, and the move caused me to lose my beloved office job. I was the poster child for the word STRESS. After our son was born, I felt that I could finally have a vacation on the books - a girls' getaway weekend with my college bestie.
Since Jamaica was a no-go, and now being a West Coast person, I decided to try out a new-to-me destination - Cabo San Lucas, MX. This was an easy travel day from EUG - single connection from Eugene to LA to Cabo. We stayed a the adults only all inclusive RIU Palace Baja California, which is located in Cabo San Lucas, not too far from the marina area, which is the bustling part of town, famous for the amazing rock formations such as El Arco.
There are 3 resorts in the RIU complex - the adults only Baja California, where we stayed, the family friendly RIU Palace Cabo San Lucas, and in between them is the party zone - RIU Santa Fe. We had access to the themed RIU Parties that take place several times a week in the central Santa Fe resort. In fact, the entire resort experience was pretty lively. Typically, resort life has me in bed by 8:30pm, worn out from sun and pool time. But in Cabo, I was able to stay up until nearly 11pm! I know, that may not sound so incredible, but when you have a toddler and an infant, that's a pretty impressive hour.
We greatly enjoyed our off resort excursion, which took us out on a boat ride to see the various rock formations and beaches of Cabo. After the sightseeing, we had time for a bit of souvenir shopping, saw a glass blowing demonstration, and then a lesson on how to make tequila, followed by a very in depth tequila tasting (good thing that the cups are small!!).
Cabo was a great choice for our girls weekend! As a Eugene, OR based travel agent, I would highly recommend this destination for those looking for a fun vibe and easy flights.
